This is a great event about spending time with the students. We usually just sit around while the students and faculty/staff wander in for a break to pet the dogs and visit. For anyone who may be new to this, it’s not a time for dogs to socialize with each other.  Please find a spot and keep your dog in that area, hang onto the leash, be aware of the other dogs’ space, and have a good time with the students. It’s too easy for the dogs to get interested in playing with the other dogs, so please leave room for the students to sit around each dog, and keep the entryways or walkways in the room clear. They love having the dogs visit.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled start time so that the dogs can see each other outside of the library before going into the room and getting settled.

We are looking for teams to visit all grade levels at Summit this year. You will be asked to talk about your pet, share details about Pet Therapy (why it is good for people, how to become a team, etc) and then allow the kids a chance to visit with your pet.

You’ll check in with the office (you do need to bring your driver’s license to check in) when you arrive and be escorted to the mat room for the class. Generally the classes are about 45 to 75 minutes long. The classes range in size up to about 30 kids and Jill will be in the room with you at all times. These visits are great for dogs with a lot of enthusiasm and love of getting petted. There are times when there are a few kids petting at once so the more outgoing the pet, the better. You are your pet’s advocate so you can determine how long your pet is happy to be there and let Jill know.
